NOVIA University of Applied Sciences FINE ARTS PROGRAMME
During the initial part of the studies students are provided with basic skills within visual expression and workshop work. The important periods of practical training are placed at the later part of the studies. The programme and work are principally divided into periods and larger course units in order to create continuity and concentration on the studies. New for this year is that the students are expected to occupy themselves with personal in-depth studies and creativity from the very start of their studies. The aim is to give students the necessary time to concentrate and find and develop their own personal mode of expression, as soon as possible. Students are offered a studio place of their own. The Fine Arts Programme prioritizes international work and thinking. Students are encouraged to go on exchange to partner schools and do international practical training. The NOVIA campus in Nykarleby maintains a successful Artist in Residence/guest studio activity with many visiting artists from the whole world. The Fine Arts Programme is the only Arts programme on university level offered in Swedish in Finland. After graduation the student can continue with Master’s studies at universities both in the home country and abroad. The Fine Arts Programme and the main school for Visual Arts at NOVIA is situated in the region Ostrobotnia in the town of Nykarleby, about 80 km north of Vasa.
